To celebrate Bob Messier’s retirement as president and CEO of Valley Bank, the bank board of directors, together with gifts from family and friends, established this fund in his honor in 2008. A long-time community volunteer and leader of the Business Education Foundation (BEF) (formerly known as the Bristol Business Education Foundation), this fund will provide support to the BEF for the purpose of providing mini-grants to teachers for special programs and enrichment activities.
FUNDS
This permanent scholarship fund was established in 2008 by retired banking executive and long-time community volunteer Bryan P. Bowerman. Mr. Bowerman, an alum of Bristol Eastern High School established this fund to award a scholarship annually to a graduating high school senior from Bristol Eastern High School accepted at the University of Connecticut with a preference given to students accepted at the School of Business.
The Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust was established in 1973 at the Southington Bank & Trust Company upon the death of Mr. Barnes; it was transferred to the Main Street Community Foundation in 2004. Grants are awarded to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving the Southington community for capital projects, programs or initiatives that will improve the health and wellbeing of Southington residents.
This designated fund was established in 2011 with the proceeds from a terminated trust originally established from a bequest by Bradley H. Barnes. Stewardship of the assets, in perpetuity, will benefit the Southington Community YMCA.
Bread for Life established this agency endowment fund to provide ongoing support for the organization. Bread for Life’s mission is to ensure no one in the Town of Southington goes hungry by providing food, fellowship and a sense of dignity to those in need. The organization provides meals served daily, delivered to the senior community and homebound citizens and to children in the summer.
This fund was established in 2016 to provide support for programs at the Bristol Adult Resource Center.
This fund was established in 2005 through the Bristol Board of Education fundraising efforts to provide immediate response grants for the children, families and employees of the Bristol school system in need of assistance.
This fund was established in 2000 to provide post-secondary scholarship assistance to current and former members in good standing of the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol.
The Bristol Boys and Girls Club Fund was established in late 2004 which will support the work of the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol. The Club serves youth ages 6-18 with programs that focus on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and citizenship.
Established at the Community Foundation in 1998, this fund continues the grantmaking done through the private Bristol Brass Foundation since 1952. Grants are awarded with special attention given to pilot, seed and capital projects which will improve the quality of life in our area.
This fund was established in 2001 to provide financial support to the Tunxis@Bristol Career Center above and beyond that provided by Tunxis Community College.
This fund was established in July 2004 to provide permanent support for the Tunxis@Bristol Career Center of Tunxis Community College.
Established in 2021 by the Bristol Hospital Foundation, this fund will provide support to the Parent & Child Center (PCC), a division of the City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYC) of Bristol, CT. PCC is a former program of the Bristol Hospital to support families in Bristol through education and resources that help them provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for children.
The Bristol Hospital Development Foundation was established in 1999 to provide ongoing support for projects at Bristol Hospital.
Transferred to Main Street Community Foundation in 2014, this fund will support the Bristol Public Library in Bristol and the Manross Memorial Library in Forestville.
This permanent scholarship fund was transferred to the Main Street Community Foundation in early 2008. This fund honors the memory of F. Fred Soliani a long-time community volunteer and leader of the School-to-Business Partnership and mentoring program which began in 1989 in the Bristol Public Schools. This fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors from Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern High Schools who demonstrate scholastic achievement, potential for success in a chosen field, outstanding character and citizenship and a commitment of service to school and community.
This fund was established by the Bristol Lions Club in 2022 with a bequest previously received from the estate of Mark M. Keating. This scholarship honors of the memory of Mr. Keating’s father, James J. Keating. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior from Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington or Wolcott who is classified as legally blind or visually impaired as defined by the Connecticut General Statutes Section 10-294a. The student must be pursuing undergraduate studies at an accredited college or university.
The Bristol Police Union established this scholarship in 1999 to support students pursuing a career in local, state or federal law enforcement, judicial systems or related criminal justice fields.
To honor all veterans, American flags are flown annually on Route 6 and other parts of Bristol from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day. This tradition was started in 2002 by Bristol resident Bill Englert, and it has been continued by his son Joe Englert. Joe is a longtime Bristol resident and owner of City True Value Hardware, and giving back to the City of Bristol is a core part of his life and his family.
This fund was established in 1996 in conjunction with the merger of Bristol Savings Bank and Webster Bank to support programs that benefit the greater Bristol community. Special consideration is given to cooperative efforts focused on citizens who may lack financial resources.
