Main Street Community Foundation Anniversary Celebration Canceled to Focus on COVID-19 Response

Main Street Community Foundation has made the difficult decision to cancel The Main Event: A Quarter Century Celebration scheduled for September 12, 2020. Upon much thought and consideration of the current events and the enormous impact of COVID-19 on all communities – both nonprofits and businesses – MSCF’s focus is on the best way to provide assistance during this crisis and the recovery that will follow.

The local businesses, organizations and individuals who generously committed sponsorships to the Main Event have redirected their support to the Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund. This fund was established in March, to mobilize the necessary resources in support of the emerging needs in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott. “We are very grateful to our Main Event sponsors for supporting our COVID-19 response efforts,” stated Susan Sadecki, President & CEO of Main Street Community Foundation. “Their donations will provide additional resources to those organizations on the front lines meeting the basic needs of residents and aid in the recovery period to bolster local nonprofits.”

Main Street Community Foundation began as an idea by a small and very dedicated group of individuals who believed that a community foundation was essential to build a permanent resource of assets to benefit the local community. On March 17, 1995 Main Street Community Foundation was incorporated. Very soon after, as a result of the merger between Webster Bank and Bristol Saving Bank, $500,000 of assets in the Bristol Savings Bank Foundation was earmarked to seed MSCF. The first MSCF fund, the Bristol Savings Bank Fund was created

Since 1995, MSCF has grown to a $48.5 million community foundation. To date, donors have established 243 funds and $19.3 million in grants and scholarships have been awarded for the benefit of organizations and individuals.

“The best way to commemorate our 25th anniversary is to mobilize our resources and meet the most pressing needs of our community,” stated Sadecki. “Focusing on our COVID-19 response will truly fulfill the vision that our Founders imagined when they established Main Street Community Foundation.” To learn more about the Foundation’s COVID-19 efforts, click here.
