Scholarship Honors the Memory of Eva Wickwire, a Longtime Bristol Hospital Employee

June 25, 2015 - Eva Wickwire was a truly genuine person who touched many lives and was an integral part of the Bristol community. Before she passed away in April 2015 at the age of 53, Eva was the Chief Development Officer and Assistant Vice President at Bristol Hospital. She had started her career as a volunteer at Hartford Hospital and worked at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center prior to coming to Bristol. As Chief Development Officer at Bristol Hospital, shewas closely involved with the volunteers atthe hospital. To honor her memory and all that she stood for, the Eva Wickwire Volunteer Scholarship Fund was recently established at the Main Street Community Foundation by the “friends of Eva”.

“Eva was a great friend and true professional who cared about people and always did the right thing to make a difference. She is missed,” said John Leone, Chairman of the Bristol Hospital Board of Directors.

The Eva Wickwire Volunteer Scholarship Fund will award an annual scholarship to a student pursuing a career in the health care field. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or current college students from Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott who have a strong record of volunteer service at a health care facility with preference given to those applicants who have volunteered at Bristol Hospital.

“This scholarship is a beautiful way to sustain Eva’s legacy in our community. She was an incredibly warm, kind and engaging member of the Bristol Hospital family,” said Kurt Barwis, President and CEO of Bristol Hospital.

The first Eva Wickwire Volunteer Scholarship will be awarded in 2016 and applications will be accepted beginning January 15, 2016 through the Foundation’s website.
