Plainville Community Fund Celebrates Its Plainville Roots

Although the Town of Plainville celebrated the 150th anniversary this past summer with a town-wide picnic, historical tours of Plainville were held on October 5th. Trolleys took participants around to 12 sites where volunteers shared the historical background of the sites.

Accompanying the tour were brochures bringing awareness to the historic locations. These brochures are also available at local businesses and organizations so individuals and families can do the walk on their own and at their convenience. The Plainville Community Fund at Main Street Community Foundation awarded the Town of Plainville a $1,500 grant this past spring to support the historical walking and trolley tour.

The grant awarded for the 150th Anniversary Celebration is just one of 80 total grants that have been distributed from the Plainville Community Fund since its establishment in 2006. To date, the Foundation has awarded grants from the Fund totaling over $82,000 to organizations and programs working to improve the lives of Plainville residents. The Fund was established at Main Street Community Foundation by a group of committed community leaders in Plainville who were interested in creating a permanent resource for charitable programs and projects that would enhance the quality of life for Plainville residents.

Grants have supported causes such as domestic violence prevention programs in the high school, food baskets at the food pantry, concerts at the park, educational opportunities for students and families, and enrichment activities for all ages.

The Plainville Community Fund relies on the donations of individuals, families and businesses. These donations help meet the changing and emerging needs of Plainville. Contributions can be made at any time to the Plainville Community Fund by donating online or by sending donations to Main Street Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2702, Bristol, CT 06010.
