MSCF Awards Grant to Southington Emotional Support Dog Program

On March 29, representatives from the Main Street Community Foundation met with the family of Jacob Perkins to present a $1,000 grant to members of the Southington Police Department, including K9 Luke Jacob. The grant was awarded from the Jacob Perkins Memorial Fund to support the Southington Emotional Support Dog Program through which Luke Jacob provides comfort to both Southington officers and community members. Luke Jacob was named after Jacob Perkins.

The Jacob Perkins Memorial Fund was established in memory of Jacob Perkins, a Southington resident who was only 20 years old when he died by suicide in 2019. Jacob had a strong affinity towards animals, especially dogs, where he seemed to be able to calm and befriend any animal he met. The Community Foundation will provide an annual grant to the Southington Police Department to benefit the Southington Police K-9 Unit or the Emotional Support Dog program.
