Main Street Community Foundation is now accepting letters of intent for grants from the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust. Grants are available to nonprofit organizations for new capital projects, programs, or initiatives that improve the health outcomes of Southington residents, especially in the priority areas of behavioral health, healthcare needs for an aging population, as well as healthy initiatives and lifestyle. The deadline to apply is February 13, 2026.

Interested 501(c)(3) organizations must contact Whitney Shufelt, Director of Grants & Programs, at whitney@mainstreetfoundation.org or 860-583-6363 x152 for a preliminary discussion at least 7 business days prior to the deadline. The Online Grants Center can be accessed through the Foundation’s website, www.mainstreetfoundation.org/apply-for-grant, and includes the application, full guidelines, and eligibility criteria.

In 2025, Main Street Community Foundation awarded a total of nearly $900,000 from Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust. Originally established in 1973 by the late Bradley Henry Barnes of Southington to support the health and health care needs of Southington residents, the Trust was transferred to Main Street Community Foundation in 2004. Since that time, $15.2 million has been granted from the Trust to improve health outcomes of Southington residents.
