Main Street Community Foundation Awards $14,870 to Benefit Burlington

Main Street Community Foundation recently awarded a total of $14,870 in grants to benefit the Burlington community. The grants were distributed from the Burlington Community Fund and the James R. Parker Trust, two funds that were established to meet the needs of the community. While the Burlington Community Fund and the James R. Parker Trust were established decades apart, 2011 and 1970 respectively, the creation of these funds demonstrate the ongoing dedication to Burlington from its residents. The grants awarded this year are:

Burlington Community Fund:
Burlington Connecticut Lions Club - $1,340 – Interior renovation and security upgrades of the Burlington Lions Club barn to protect equipment and supplies needed for fundraising activities
Burlington Historical Society - $1,500 - Support for senior citizen transportation at Tavern Day community event
Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center - $1,750 – Imagine Nation Loves Burlington program providing S.T.E.A.M. educational workshops and family engagement activities for Burlington children, ages 2-11

James R. Parker Trust:
Burlington Connecticut Lions Club - $1,660 – Interior renovation and security upgrades of the Burlington Lions Club barn to protect equipment and supplies needed for fundraising activities
Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra - $3,500 – Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Educational Children’s Concerts to be performed at Lewis S. Mills High School for third-grade students in the Burlington school district 
Town of Burlington – Parks & Recreation - $1,000 - Recreational outdoor equipment for seniors to provide healthy activities, encourage socialization, and reduce isolation
Town of Burlington – Social Services - $4,120 – Support for Burlington families in need including food, fuel, and other assistance as determined by the Social Services department

Main Street Community Foundation is dedicated to investing in the communities of every town in its service area of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, and Wolcott, and with these two funds the Foundation is able to meet the needs of Burlington residents directly.
