Five-Year Commitment to Southington Public Library

Five-Year Commitment to Southington Public Library

July 2025 - Published in: 2024 Annual Report - A new and improved Southington Public Library has been in progress for several years now, and in 2024 it was finally opened to the public. The previous library building had been built in 1974 for a Southington population of 33,600, and the town’s population grew by nearly 30 percent to 43,800 by 2019. The new fully accessible and code-compliant building addresses the many needs of a larger population, including expanded space for children and teens, meeting and workspaces for individuals and groups, and acoustical separation for noisy and quiet spaces.

MSCF committed $50,000 through the KAWFY Memorial Fund over five years to the Southington Public Library to support the Children’s Program Room, and the first $10,000 grant was awarded. The KAWFY Memorial Fund was established by an anonymous donor through an unexpected and generous bequest to support projects and programs that will benefit the community of Southington. The Children’s Program Room allows kids and families to explore, play, and learn together through books, recreational materials and interactive programs that are offered for children of all ages.

To honor the commitment from MSCF’s KAWFY Memorial Fund, the children’s program space was named after Main Street Community Foundation.
