Building Capacity of Local Nonprofits

Our local nonprofits are vital. They focus resources and provide services to meet community needs with one broad goal: to improve the quality of life of local residents. Because of the shared goal, Main Street Community Foundation has made a commitment to strengthening our communities’ nonprofit organizations and their leaders, both for today and for the future.

For the past six years, the Foundation has partnered with local organizations, businesses and individuals to offer workshops and webinars as part of its Nonprofit Education Series. The Nonprofit Education Series is available to local organizations. Sessions are on topics of interest that will enhance the development and knowledge of nonprofit professionals, board members and volunteers. Each year, the Foundation partners with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Connecticut Chapter (AFP) to present a set of webinars. The topics included ethics, fundraising, planned giving and social media and representatives from local organizations are invited to attend. Learn about upcoming Nonprofit Education opportunities by visiting the "Events" section of the website here.

Furthermore, the Foundation is proud to be recognized as a resource for nonprofits. Organizations can feel comfortable and confident when approaching the Foundation for guidance and support. The Foundation regularly publicizes relevant funding and educational opportunities and provides direction on submitting grant applications. The Women & Girls’ Fund of Main Street Community Foundation annually holds a grantwriting workshop to help ensure that local nonprofits are submitting competitive proposals.

The Foundation’s commitment to strengthening and supporting our nonprofit organizations includes more than giving financial grants. We take pride in knowing the ins and outs of the other organizations serving the local communities. We are in this together.
