144 Students Awarded Total of $328,114 in Scholarships Thanks to Scholarship Funds Established by Local Donors

Main Street Community Foundation works to connect students in need to donors with a passion for education through the Foundation’s scholarship program. This year, 144 students have been awarded a total of $328,114 in scholarships, which is a $47,514 increase from last year’s total of $280,600. The recipients of these scholarships include students in various stages of their academic careers who will be continuing their education with the help of these scholarships in the fields of business, healthcare, criminal justice, journalism, education, engineering, visual arts, skilled trades and so many more.

The Foundation currently administers over 90 named scholarship funds that have all been established by local individuals, families, businesses, or other organizations. Every fund has a unique and personal story behind its creation, but what each one has in common is that the donors created the funds to support the academic and career dreams of students in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott. With each scholarship awarded, the legacy of those who started the funds and those being honored continues and reinforces the recipients’ abilities to create their own legacies.

The majority of scholarship grants were awarded during the Community Foundation’s June 21, 2023 Scholarship Reception at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bristol. The Reception, which is held annually to celebrate the recipients and thank the generous donors, was attended by nearly 200 people.

All scholarships are awarded through a competitive, blinded application process and are available to students at varying levels of their academic careers within the Foundation’s service area, as well as other communities. An all-volunteer selection committee appointed by the Foundation’s Board of Directors evaluates all applications before recommending recipients.
