Local nonprofit organizations are facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Program and fundraising revenue has drastically decreased, yet demand for services is stronger than ever as residents seek assistance for many basic needs and supports. To assist the Plainville community, Main Street Community Foundation recently awarded $6,000 in grants from the Plainville Community Fund.

The grants awarded are:

• For Goodness Sake - $1,500 – unrestricted operating support in response to COVID-19
• Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters - $1,500 – Community Based Mentoring Program in Plainville
• Plainville Board of Education - $500 – purchase of an iPad for the Plainville High School Math Department to facilitate virtual learning
• Plainville Community Food Pantry - $500 – unrestricted operating support in response to COVID-19
• Prudence Crandall Center - $2,000 – unrestricted operating support for services provided to Plainville residents

“These grants were recommended by the Plainville Community Fund Advisory Council to respond to the most critical needs faced by Plainville residents during this pandemic,” stated Byron Treado, Chair of the Advisory Council. “We want to provide relief today so we can keep our community strong for tomorrow.”

Earlier this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Main Street Community Foundation awarded $5,000 in responsive grants from the Plainville Community Fund to two organizations meeting the basic needs of residents. In addition, this spring, the Fund awarded a $1,000 grant to the Chrysalis Center to support case management services at St. Philip House in Plainville.

The Plainville Community Fund was established at Main Street Community Foundation in 2006 by a group of committed community leaders in Plainville who were interested in creating a permanent resource for charitable programs and projects that would enhance the quality of life for Plainville residents. Over the past 14 years, the Foundation has awarded grants from the Fund totaling nearly $100,000 to organizations and programs working to improve the lives of residents.

The Fund relies on the donations of individuals, families and businesses. These donations help meet the changing and emerging needs of Plainville, especially during this uncertain time.
