Wonder of Women Event to Feature Cari Champion

(March 24, 2014) - The 13th Annual Wonder of Women (WOW) event, held by by the Women & Girls’ Fund at Main Street Community Foundation, will be Monday, April 28, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT. The event will feature guest speaker Cari Champion of ESPN.

The WOW event is an annual fundraiser to benefit the Fund’s fall grant cycle. In 2013, proceeds from the WOW event allowed the Fund to distribute over $30,000 to 12 local organizations and causes serving women and girls in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott.

“This event allows the Fund to do what it does – improve the quality of life for women and girls in the communities we serve,” stated Sandi Perillo and EJ Conlin, this year’s WOW event co-chairs. “And it’s a great evening – networking with hundreds of like-minded individuals, a silent auction with an assortment of items and an inspiring speaker.”

The guest speaker, sponsored by ESPN, is Cari Champion, host of ESPN2’s First Take. On the show, she shares the debate table with Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith and moderates the debate topics while offering her perspective and insight. As a broadcast journalist and host, Champion has also worked across the country covering network news, entertainment and sports stories of national interest for ABC, CBS, NBC as well as other cable networks.

Seats for this year’s event are $55 and are now available. The WOW event is sponsored by Barnes Group Foundation and MassMutual, as Premier Sponsors; KPMG LLP, as a Presenting Sponsor; and several others businesses, organizations and individuals whose contributions are most appreciated.
