General Guidelines

Interested organizations should contact the foundation office at 860-583-6363 to first discuss any proposal ideas and application process for each of the grant programs.

General Competitive Grants

April 13 Application Deadline

Competitive grants are made to eligible community organizations for future, planned expenditures and not to cover operating deficits or previously incurred obligations. Preference is given to an organization if the program/project:

  • Responds to changing or emerging needs of the community;
  • Leverages or generates other funding or resources;
  • Promotes collaboration among nonprofit agencies without duplication of efforts;
  • Enhances an existing program to encourage sustainability.

The foundation’s distribution committee, a volunteer group of appointed community representatives, recommends all grant decisions for final approval by the foundation’s board of directors. Grant decisions are made in June.

Women & Girls’ Fund

September 30 Application Deadline

The Women & Girls’ Fund mission is to make it possible for women and girls to improve the quality of their lives. Competitive grants are made to organizations that align with this mission and serve females of any age in the foundation’s service area. The funding focus seeks to assist women and girls to obtain the skills and competencies to develop their full potential. In addition to the programmatic focus on women and girls, preference will be given to proposals that identify ways the organization will build capacity as a tool for programmatic and organizational sustainability.

The Women & Girls’ Fund advisory board recommends all grant decisions for final approval by the foundation’s board of directors. Grant decisions are made in December.

Plainville Community Fund

March 30 Application Deadline

The Plainville Community Fund was established by a group of community leaders in early 2006 as an endowed fund to create an additional resource for charitable projects and programs that benefit the Plainville community. Competitive grants are made to organizations for projects that will enhance the quality of life for residents in Plainville.

The Plainville Community Fund Advisory Board recommends all grant decisions for final approval by the Foundation’s board of directors. Grant decisions are made in June.

Scholarships

Deadline varies by scholarship

The Foundation administers over 54 scholarship funds, each with different application criteria requirements. The list of available scholarships is posted annually by January 15. Scholarships are available at all education levels.

Most award decisions are made in May.

Immediate Response and Donor Advised Funds

The distribution process for grants from both Immediate Response and Donor Advised funds are approved throughout the year, as requests or special initiatives are presented to the foundation. These requests are matched to the interests of specific funds. Contact us to learn more.
