Our Vision:
In order to build a stronger, healthier, more compassionate community, charitable giving must be combined with the collaboration of our human strengths and resources… that's the United Way.
United Way of West Central Connecticut is one of over 1,400 independent, community-based United Ways across America. It is governed by a local board of directors and enlists a team of hundreds of volunteers from all sectors of the community, and professional staff members whose goal it is to:
- Convene and establish partnerships to facilitate strategies to improve community life.
- Raise financial resources through an annual campaign and efficiently invest in priority program services and strategic community initiatives; and
- Promote and provide a broad range of volunteer opportunities connecting individuals, families and businesses to the community.
Your United Way is focusing on what matters most--the lives we change, the communities we shape. The United Way of West Central Connecticut believes families are the foundation of our community. It is our belief that, regardless of their makeup, all familites should have the opportunity to experience a quality life, socially, emotionally and economically. We will do this through collaborative, targeted, community efforts, and our first initiatives focus on youth.
-The Discovery Initiative is a partnership between the United Way, local Boards of Education and government, Family Resource Centers, School Readiness Councils, community early care and education providers, parents and the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund. This collaborative is working to address issues from birth to age eight in our community.
-Our middle school initiative focuses on children ages eleven through fifteen. The United Way and its partners will engage these youth in activities that make a contribution to the community to help them successfully navigate their transition to young adulthood.
The United Way is also targeting issues in the areas of "Supporting Our Elderly" and "Basic Human Needs". United Way is still the most effective way for you to invest and participate in your community. Together, we are the leader and catalyst for change in the business of caring.
