Mission Statement: BCO's mission is to help eliminate or alleviate the causes and effects of poverty in the Greater Bristol Area.

BCO is a private non-profit community action agency serving elderly, handicapped, children and youth, economically disadvantaged individuals and families, and the unemployed toward the goal of self sufficiency, personal growth and independence. Programs include:

Energy Assistance and Weatherization: provides eligible households with energy assistance to meet heating and energy costs and provides information on energy conservation and consumption.

Dial a Ride: and other transportation services that bring people to doctor appointments, dialysis treatments, shopping, and other areas of need to those who lack transportation.

Head Start: our pre-school program for 3 and 4 year olds to help them prepare for the rigors of education by developing those social, intellectual, emotional, and other appropriate skills to succeed in school.

Homemaking Services: basic homemaking services for the elderly, disabled and others who require assistance to maintain independence in their home. Clients meet eligibility for free/low cost services while others provide payment on a private basis.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP): this service matches volunteers 55 years of age and older with those non-profit organizations in need of people to complete a task.

Social Services : this includes a variety of programs including, counseling, advocacy, eviction prevention, shelter assistance, health/HUSKY referral, youth and adult employment services, Healthy Start for new mothers, grand parents raising grandchildren, and referral and follow up to Federal and State funded programs..
