Leila Upson Barnes and Henry Barnes circa 1910-1920 |
In July 2004, the Main Street Community Foundation was named new successor
trustee for the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust by
the Southington Probate Court. Under this arrangement, Main Street is to
provide local oversight of the $15 million trust that was set up in Mr. Barnes'
last will and testament. In his will, Bradley Barnes was very clear in stating that
this money be used to support the health care needs of Southington residents.
Specifically, he wished this support to be directed to the town's independently-run
hospital, Bradley Memorial, which had been built through a bequest from
his aunt Julia A. Bradley.
The Main Street Community Foundation Board, staff and Barnes Trust Advisory
Committee will work closely with representatives of Bradley Memorial Hospital
to ensure that the health care needs of Southington residents will be addressed
for years to come.
